From a dream in Boulder to Ciao Bella.
Years ago in Boulder, our founder, Sage Dobby, created what would become the world’s first pineapple hair tie using a vintage sewing machine from the 1920s.
What started as one handmade idea became Sage’s first pilot. The very first pineapple hair tie she ever made was sold at the beach right here in San Diego to the sweetest old man, who actually had no hair but insisted on paying $10 for it.
Since then, Sage has continued refining the design, the materials, and the mission. Ciao Bella has always been her dream: to create everyday essentials that feel beautiful, work beautifully, and help protect the places we love.

Ciao Bella Collective was founded on a simple belief: the things we use every day should be beautiful, perform exceptionally well, and leave the world better than we found it.
Sage has always been drawn to building things with purpose. Growing up with a deep love for Wyoming, open spaces, and the natural world, she learned early that beautiful places are worth protecting.
Later, while studying neuroscience and social innovation, she became fascinated by how small everyday choices shape the way we live — and how even the most ordinary products can either add to a problem or become part of a better solution.
That question stayed with her:
Why are so many everyday products designed for convenience instead of impact?
What began as a handmade prototype evolved into years of testing, redesigning, sourcing, and refining. The goal was never simply to create another hair tie. It was to create something people would genuinely love to use while proving that thoughtfully chosen materials could perform beautifully.
The result became the Hair Halo™: a thoughtfully designed hair tie made with pineapple-based fibers and natural rubber, engineered for comfort, durability, and all-day performance.
But Ciao Bella was never meant to be just a hair accessory company.
