What is Ciao Bella?
Ciao Bella means hello beautiful. We make plastic-free, high-performance hair ties from upcycled pineapple fiber, designed to hold securely without breakage, creases, or the microplastics that come with conventional hair ties. We are a women-owned brand designed in San Diego.
What is the Hair Halo?
The Hair Halo is our signature hair tie. It is made from a pineapple fiber blend fabric over a natural rubber and cotton core, so it grips well, stays gentle on hair, and contains no virgin plastic. It comes in a six-pack.
How is Ciao Bella different from regular hair ties?
Most hair ties are made from petroleum-based synthetics like polyester, nylon, and spandex, which can shed microplastics and take centuries to break down. The Hair Halo uses plant and tree-derived materials instead, including upcycled pineapple leaf fiber, so it holds securely without snagging or pulling and is far better for the planet.

What are Ciao Bella Halos made from?
Upcycled pineapple fiber fabric, with a core of natural rubber and cotton. No virgin plastic.
Are they safe and non-toxic?
Yes. The Hair Halo is made from plant and tree-derived materials and contains no virgin plastic, no polyester PET, no polyurethane or elastane, and no nylon. Unlike many conventional hair ties, it does not shed microplastic fibers during use.
How long do they last?
With proper care, hand wash and air dry, each tie can last up to a year. They are built to be reused, not tossed after a few wears.
Will they work for my hair type?
Yes. The Hair Halo is designed for thick, fine, curly, and straight hair. It holds securely without the tension damage that causes breakage, even during workouts and active days.
Why pineapple fiber?
Tens of millions of tons of pineapple are harvested globally each year, and most of the leaf material is burned or left to rot. We take that agricultural byproduct and turn it into fabric, a circular solution instead of more pollution.
How do I care for my Hair Halo?
Hand wash gently and air dry. Avoid machine washing and high heat to keep the fiber and core performing at their best.

Is there real science behind your claims?
Yes. Our materials claims are supported by 45 peer-reviewed sources covering microplastics, textile materials, and pineapple fiber. We publish the full synthesis so you can check the research yourself.
Do conventional hair ties really shed microplastics?
Microplastic shedding from synthetic textiles is documented in published research. Conventional hair ties are typically made from those same petroleum-based synthetics. The Hair Halo is made from plant and tree-derived materials instead.
Are the Halos biodegradable?
The plant and tree-derived materials are designed to break down in aerobic soil conditions, unlike petroleum-based synthetics, which can persist for centuries.

Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. Free shipping on all orders of $35 and over. Most bundles qualify automatically.
How long will my order take?
Orders are typically processed within 1 to 2 business days. Delivery timing depends on your location and the shipping method selected at checkout.

You will receive a tracking link by email once your order ships. You can also check status from your account.
Can I change or cancel my order?

What if my Hair Halo snaps?
We stand behind the product. If a tie snaps within the first 90 days, we will send a free replacement pack. Just reach out.

We offer easy returns within 90 days. Check our refund policy for details, and contact us to start a return or exchange.
How do I start a return or replacement?
Contact us with your order number and what went wrong, and we will take care of it.

Do you give back?
Yes. We donate 5% of proceeds to organizations supporting our planet and communities, currently the Surfrider Foundation and its work on the Tijuana sewage crisis.
What is the environmental impact of switching?
Each six-pack saves roughly 30g of plastic and helps prevent about 100g of CO2 emissions compared to conventional hair ties. A small switch with a real footprint.
